Instructions
In a small cup, mix 1/4 warm water with yeast, sprinkle a little sugar in the yeast and water to help the yeast grow (5 minutes). In a large mixing bowl mix 3 cups of flour, sugar, salt and dough conditioner. Pour flour mixture into a kitchenaid mixer with hook attachment. Pour the yeast/water and milk into the mixing bowl with dry mix. Mix on level 2 for approx 5 min. Add the egg, oil and additional 1 cup of reserved flour in and mix on level 2 for an addional 5 minutes. If your using your hands to mix the bread dough, mix and knead for a total of 10 minutes. Dough should be satin looking when finished and should be tacky like a postit sticky paper. If needed, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time. Coat the ball of dough with a little canola oil and place in a large ziplock bag, folding over the end of the bag to close. Let the dough rise double in size. Lightly punch the dough down. Shape the dough into a loaf or cut the dough into 6 evenly shaped pieces if making the bread bowls. Let the dough rise again (proofing) until double in size. Beat an egg mixed with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the top of the dough for great a great browned crust. Bake in a preheated oven for approx. 25 minutes for bread bowls and bread loaf bake for 40 minutes. Bread should sound hallow when tapped, if it is done. Slightly cool the bread before serving. If using a topping such as cheddar cheese, olives or onions, brush with egg wash first. Enjoy! Questions about this bread recipe? Email
